A Winter’s Pause

A visit to Camp at this time of year reminds us how special this place is in the winter. One of our core youth development pillars is Nature. We believe that nature is our best educator. As we walk with the intention of nature being our guide through camp we see Winter all around us. The calm snow, the bare trees, and the unusually direct sight lines create an environment that encourages clarity and focus, helping us to discern what truly matters. To Iain and I, what truly matters most is the community we have built, the values we feel are essential in the growth of youth, and investing in the beautiful natural environment that surrounds us.

Winter’s pause is a reminder of the importance of stillness. Winter teaches patience, and the value of stillness and reflection. In moments of rest and reflection, we often set the stage for new perspectives and growth, just as nature prepares for the burst of life in spring. We take these quiet moments at camp to review our debriefs from the previous summer and how we plan to burst to life in the summer once again!

We recognize that the dormancy of winter is not an end but a phase of rest, reflection, and gathering strength. In nature, the stillness of winter provides ideal conditions for seeds to germinate.

We as a leadership team meet to reflect on the previous year. We gather, we rest, we reflect and together begin to plan. Starting with little seeds of thoughts and growing them into strong ideas to better camp and prepare for not only another amazing summer but the future of Twin Creeks as a whole.

We’ll be sharing the results of these meetings as the months pass and the discussions take place amongst our leadership team.  Program additions, new buildings, improvements to cabins; all of these changes come from suggestions and survey results that you contribute towards.  We’re excited to share everything the 2025 summer has to offer!
